Pattern Definition
A pattern is a repeated decorative design seen in all aspects of life. It is an underlying structure that organises surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular matter. It can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought of as the "skeleton" that organises the parts of a composition.
My Interpretation
I believe pattern is the repetition of specific lines shapes and colours both natural and manmade.
The above image is an example of a naturally occurring pattern.
There are two types of patterns;
- Regular Patterns - A regular pattern consists of the same repetition over again with no differences in the composition
The above image is an example of a regular pattern as the shapes of the windows are the same.
- Irregular Patterns - An irregular pattern is pattern found in irregular formations and, in direct contrast to regular formations.
The above image is an example of an irregular pattern as the lines are straight to produce a recognisable pattern, however the image above is a pattern in an irregular form.
