Portraiture Defintion

Definition
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even mood of the person.

My Interpretation
A portrait photograph is the art of capturing a subject, for example if it was off someone the main focus point would be the facial features and expressions.

This is portraiture photography as it emphasises the detail of the little girl's face and shows the serious expression on her face, this is shown by the frown of her lips as well as the squint in her eye, shows the frustration she is feeling.

By Yousuf Karsh

This portrait meet the expectations of a political/war hero as it dominates the mans angry expression on his face, this is emphasised by the lighting that is positioned to spotlight on his face. This portrait also meets the expectations as it shows that he isn't afraid or shy about getting his photograph taken and is very confident, which portrays him to be a serious man and gives the impression that he isn't very friendly.

Amanda Lepore
By David Lachapelle

This portrait meets the expectations of a celebrity artist, as it looks like it is based upon marilyn monroe. Additionally the portrait is very feminist, this is because it has the exaggeration of eye shadow and the red lips and curly hair, which is stereotypical for the ideal woman.
